NATIONAL FEAST OF THE ITALIAN REPUBLIC AND ITALIAN SPORT

As is tradition, the 16th National Sport Day will be celebrated on the first Sunday of June, which this year, for the second time since the first edition in 2003, will coincide with the feast of the Italian Republic, 2 June.

The event will be organized by CONI, in collaboration with sports associations, sports organizations and Local Authorities operating in the area. The objective is to promote and transmit the educational and socio-relational function of sport.

On the occasion of this coincidence, we want to pay tribute to the Italian Olympic athletes who are part of the military sports groups divided by Summer and Winter Olympics.

At the RIO Summer Olympic Games in 2016, they reached the podium:

In canoe Domenico Montrone, part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group, won the Bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, in the specialty 4 without. The athlete reached the podium together with Giuseppe Vicino, Matteo Lodo, ​​Matteo Castaldo.

In diving, Francesca Dallapè and Tania Cagnotto, part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group, won the Bronze medal at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016, in the Trampoline 3 m synchro specialty.

In cycling Elisa Longo Borghini, part of the Fiamme Oro groupwon the bronze medal, .

Rosella Fiammingo, a member of the Forestale sports group, won the silver medal in the individual specialty Fencing.

In the Judo Cat. 52 Kg Odette Giuffrida, part of the sports group of the Italian army, won the silver medal.

Gregorio Paltrinieri, in swimming 1500 meters freestyle. Gregorio is part of the Fiamme Oro sports group.

At the PYEONGCHANG Olympic Winter Games in 2018, many female athletes from more than one military sports group reached the podium.

In alpine skiing, Sofia Goggia, gold medal in the descent. Sofia is part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group.

In snowboarding, Michela Moioli, specialty SnowboardCross (SBX) - is part of the sports group of the Italian Army.

The athletes Cecilia Maffei, of the sports group Fiamme Azzurre, took the second step in the short track specialty 3000 m. Relay together with Arianna Fontana, Lucia Peretti and Martina Valcepina. Arianna and Martina are part of the Fiamme Gialle sports group, while Lucia is part of the Italian Army.

These are only a part of the athletes who carry the sporting tricolor up in the world.

That of military athletes is a feature of Italian sport as well as professionals in some of the most popular sports, from football to volleyball, from tennis to basketball, there are many athletes competing in other disciplines, supported by the Army, the Police, the Guard of Finance and other military forces.

This peculiarity of Italian sport is a form of direct state support for sports, demonstrating how sport and the Italian state have as their goal to bring the Italian National colors to the top in the world.
